Gold Mine (San Diego Day 5)

Time to finish up the San Diego trip. You can't leave Julian without an apple pie. Or apple somethings. I wish we'd brought a few of these home.

We did bring home an apple pie for Frank, to thank him for housesitting.

Since Julian is a mining town, we thought we'd better visit the mine.

At 10 a.m., it was already 90 degrees out. Not to worry, the mine was a refreshing 55 inside!

In one adit...

And out the other...

Then, the long drive home. Faced with a choice in roads, my husband and I will both choose the road less traveled, either the twisty windy country road or the freeway with the least traffic. We did both on the way home. We followed several roads past numerous casinos until we hit I-15 in Temecula. Stayed on 15 all the way to the 210. The nav system threatened us several times, but we stood our ground. And had no traffic problems whatsover. Take that, you nav system who wanted to shunt us over to the 405 freeway from hell.

It was really hot...I do not lie:

I have never been to the mine either-I guess when you figure you go anytime you just never do.

Oh my, that apple pie looks amazing.

Hmmm. It's 6pm and I'm hungry!

Amine must be the place to be in the heat - even a tunnel will help :-)

PS Thank you for the comment!

Ohhhhh...mines freak.me.out. Chalk it up to a grandpa who was a coal miner! Looks like a great day, though.

My husband insisted we get a navigation device. That was really OK because it covered Father's Day and our anniversary, thus I didn't have to think of a gift. However, it's already driving me nuts with its insistence on going crazy routes.

THOSE APPLE THINGS? Yum!
