Pasadena

I had the most mouth-watering breakfast

at Central Park Restaurant, which was right across the street from Central Park, Pasadena's first public park.

As I walked past the park, I spotted a turret. A TURRET? I had to investigate.

I have been obsessed with turret rooms ever since I read The Velvet Room by Zilpha Keatley Snyder, where the girl reads in a round room with red velvet curtains.

Going around the corner...

Castle Green. I want to live there someday, but for now I can settle for taking the semi-annual tour.

Around another corner, I found Italian Violines,

cobblestones and alleys,

hidden restaurants,

old signs,

and even Bob the Builder.

Then I met Barbra and she gave me a tour of her town. We had a delicious lunch at her mother's favorite restaurant. No dessert needed when their zucchini bread is so good.

We visited the Norton Simon Museum with her son. He is the nicest boy! So sweet and smart. The museum was beautiful, just the right size for an afternoon's visit. The hidden garden was a treat.

I had to decide where to take Flat Debbie's picture? By the Picasso? By the Degas? So many choices. So I chose...

Debbie as one of the Three Graces!

Beautiful! I love Pasadena...we enjoyed a week there a few years ago during the Rose Bowl festivities. Cool "town".

Lovely - I really should go to Pasadena more often.

My heart leapt as I read your words about the turret and The Velvet Room. That was one of my favorite books as a kid. I actually bought a copy of the book from Amazon a couple years ago and read it again. It still stands up!
