Pagophagia

Someone in the house loves to chew ice.

Not only do I hear the crunch crunch crunch
but also the grind grind grind of the ice dispenser.

I googled "ice chewing annoying"
and found out I was not alone in being annoyed.

Did you know that the compulsion to chew ice,
or pagophagia,
can be a sign of iron deficiency?
Neither did I.

I thought I'd get a break over the winter.
Alas, much of our winter has been a heat wave.

I'm sure it could be worse.
Tell me something that drives YOU crazy!

That sound would make me nuts, too.
I knew the urge to eat dirt or chalk was a thing, but chewing ice? Wow.

I admit, I tend to chew my ice cubes. I know I shouldn't but it is strangely satisfying and my mother was a consummate cruncher of ice.
On the other hand, it is calorie-free!
My iron levels are fine, so chalk (ha!) it up to bad habit. If it bothers someone I am with, I do try to not do it. You'll have to remind me.

Something that drives me crazy: bits of toothpaste left in the sink.

Any crunching sound sends me over the edge.

I know, about the iron bit, so its sorta like "please take a vitamin instead! with spinach!"

I used to crunch ice. Then I got a crown (not the cute princess kind) and my ice crunching days are over. I do not want any more dental work. The ice crunching drove my mother bonkers.
