Virtual Garden Tour

My garden doesn't look that great.
Due to a combination of my brown thumb and the drought,
things are either uninspiring or dried up.
I didn't even try to plant flowers or tomatoes this spring.
Instead, I thought I'd take you to a local botanic garden.
It's also very dry, but that's a natural state.

I learned why we have earthquakes in California.

OVERSLEEPING TURTLES!
It makes total sense now.

Two kinds of poppies were still in abundance, the California Poppy, our state flower,

and another kind (I don't know the name).

Cattails took advantage of the last vestiges of dampness in a stream bed.

Hearts abounded on the travelled path.

Should I investigate the path less travelled?

I was happy to see a plethora of bees feasting on mustard

and even more on the lavender.

Between the breeze blowing and the bees hopping from flower to flower,
it was hard to get them in focus!

Looking at these photos reminds me of doing fieldwork out west --just that overall natural dry heat, scuffing through the underbrush looking for various rock formations. It's extremely different from a typical Midwest summer, which we are experiencing right now --everything is growing so fast and lush that you can't keep up, and when you step outside the humidity is so high it's like stepping into a steam room.

I can feel the heat in those pictures! Great job with those bee shots and I learned something new: oversleeping turtles! :)
I need to move my lavender to a new spot for next year -- it has been overwatered in the current spot.
Our tomatoes are still in bloom/bud or greet status.

Who knew sleeping turtles could have such a large effect on the world?

Those poppies are astounding, and astoundingly different from each other. I love the photos of the bees.

Wish we could send some of our rain your way.

What a pretty place to tromp around. I like the idea of those turtles.

Look who's a bee photographer! This is very clever and beautifully photographed. I'm a fan of those California Poppies, yo. And, yes, investigate the path less traveled. Or take the 5 South to visit me.

LOVE YOUR TOUR!

Gorgeous! I like knowing that bees are still around. I could plant lavender to attract more, if I weren't afraid it would take over the world like mint did!
