More Messy Business

This was my weekend for messy things.

For several days we've been battling a fly infestation. Francine has been crazed with delight since bug catching is her favorite hobby. But there were too many, even for her. After the third time she skidded across the floor and hit the wall, it just wasn't fun anymore. Swat! Swat! Swat! I let the corpses fall to the ground. Most were behind the TV. By Sunday we thought we got most of them so I vacuumed them up.

Saturday, a certain cat (name redacted to protect feline dignity) left the litterbox with something dangling from its derriere. Said something detached itself in small bits all down the hall and into the living room. Certain cat settled down to groom said derriere but seemed to totally miss the messy spot. We gave the cat a brief rubdown with a warm towel and cat got very excited and licked the hand of the person holding it.

Who me?

Sunday, I discovered an infestation of ants. They were all over the water dish and Homer's meager ration of kibble.  Fortunately for him, I had left the pantry cupboard unlocked and he was able to get in and assuage his hunger in Tiny's kibble bag. (This photo is not from the actual moment...it was taken another time.)

We had a fly problem for a week this summer too. It was extremely annoying, and I have no idea why we suddenly had so many flies in the house. We battle tiny black "slab" ants most summers. I tried a trick for them I learned from another blogger (Kristy from The Crislers) --I mixed borax with jelly in small bottle caps and left them in strategic places. Those worked really well.

The fly infestations are the worst. We had one a couple of years ago. Tom, Laura, and I formed a three-man death squad. Spotting (Tom), swatting (me, I'm a ninja), and picking up the corpse (Laura, with a giant WAD of paper towels). We wanted to get them before they could breed. It was slow going over days of losing battles, but we finally won the war. Hang in there! Let me know if you want to hire us. We'll work for abelskiver.

Oh Homer!

Sorry about the bugs. Sounds like you're in Florida. The bug guy is one of my favorite humans. The septic guy - also a favorite human. Hope things improve for you.

If it makes you feel any better, there is a fairly large blue & black skink somewhere in my living room right now. Thanks, Henry.
