Driving Away the Worries

I've been a chronic worrier all my life. My mother always told me I had a worried look on my face as a baby. Thanks, mom.

Yes, I do lie awake worrying about many things I cannot control. It's not fun. Thinking about worst case scenarios is not conducive to sleep.

On the bright side, I have never worried about taxes or Ebola.

I discovered something that can drive the worries out of my head: show tunes! I watched Into The Woods twice in one day (the movie and the DVD of the Broadway show) and guess what, the earworms drove all worried thoughts out of my head that night.

So maybe an evening dose of show tunes will do the trick?

I am partial to Sondheim. Got a favorite show tune? Let me know!

I could have used some show tunes last night, although it wasn't worries that kept me awake.
What earworm do I have to share today? "I'm gonna wash that man right outta my hair..."

Yeah, taxes and Ebola have not been high of my list of worries either. I'm not sure if show-tunes would do it for me, but perhaps we should start a support club? :-)

I wonder, with your son 3000 miles away, is that at the top of your worries list?

It must have been when I had to listen to my friend and co-worker practice songs from Side By Side By Sondheim, and complain that the notes and timing are very difficult to learn, but I myself am not partial to Sondheim - love the words to his songs though! My favorite has to be Rogers and Hammerstein, oh and the little known Herbert Kretzmer who wrote the lyrics for Les Mis... but Alan Menken rates right up there too! Have you seen Galivant? You want earworms - that's your show!

Maybe show tunes are what I need! There are very few musicals that I don't love so I would have plenty from which to choose. Love R & H, Sondheim, the other R & H Rogers & Hart, and Bernstein's West Side Story. Good stuff!
