Bees

Yesterday I got stung by a bee, for the first time in 40 years since I was a child. It was an big ugly thing, not cute like the one I spotted at the botanic garden today:

Look at that cute little bee butt!

I hadn't been to the Botanic Garden in years. There were a lot of burned areas from the Jesusita fire, but it was amazing to see the plants coming back again. Nature finds a way.

OH, but I forgot the LOW point of the day! "Martha," the elderly cashier at the botanic garden asked me, "Adult or Senior?" I have NEVER been so insulted before. I don't think I look 60! Fifty, OK, since that is creeping up on me next year. Martha, please have your glasses checked.

SENIOR? WTH? In dog years, I guess. I would have whacked her with my purse and burst out into tears so I could get in for free.

(Probably just the tears part. But I would wish I'd DONE the first part a few hours later when it occurred to me).

Maybe she was just trying to get you to voluntarily be a 'senior' for an extra discount. Oh! Or maybe she meant senior in high school / college. Right? Definitely.

Bee stings are the worst. Two of my kids got them last week.

Did you smack Martha? I might have.

That's as bad as "When's your baby due?" Horrible. But the bee IS cute and the flowers are gorgeous and so sorry you got stung by an UGLY bee!

1. Cute little bee butt! Love it!

2. Ohhhh, being asked if you're a senior is far worse than your first "ma'am". I am so sorry. I'd be sorrier for you if I hadn't been asked the same question a time or two.
