Kilroy Was Here

I've been scanning slides. Here's a great one of my mom in 1948, wearing a graffiti t-shirt. How trendy! And can you hear my jaw dropping as I realize she is braless?

Okay -- My doctorate is in English and feminist studies, and this is a picture we feminist academic types would totally adore. Still do!

Wow braless is pretty daring for 1948. And the photograpg is excellent quality for that time as well.

As for the feminist thing the matron suggested, I think they'd go for the braless thing, but I'm afraid the message on the shirt negates that, if you know the history of Kilroy.

My M-I-L e-mailed me: "I saw the picture of C. What a mass of black hair! My mental picture has it as red." And my answer is occasionally. Usually she went for brown dye (her sister was the redhead) but I think once in a while she got the wrong package!

And my father e-mailed: "I enjoyed the picture of C. She had truely lovely breasts." Right on, dad!
