I love Musicals

EW put out a list of their top 25 musicals. You can see it here. I have seen every one except #17 (a Busby Berkely compilation disc). Yes, I am a musical junkie.

Here's the top 5:

  1. The Wizard of Oz
  2. West Side Story
  3. Singin' in the Rain
  4. Cabaret
  5. Mary Poppins

I love them all. I've been indulging while Ernest has been gone. I'm catching up on some Julie Andrews musicals I've missed. I just had Star! and Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Darling Lili is in the Netflix queue. Also there were a couple on my shelf I hadn't watched yet: Bells are Ringing and Take Me Out to the Ballgame (in a set from Costco). When the weather eased, I watched On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. Because they used some of the songs in Wall-E (which I haven't seen yet), I had to see Hello, Dolly again. Plus the ones I watched when I had the flu.

I'm going to see Mamma Mia on Monday.

If you like musicals, tell me one of your favorites! (Bunny, please comment, even though I know which one yours is!)

I've only seen nine of them and most of those were a long time ago, so I don't really remember them. I don't really have a favorite, as musicals aren't really my thing.

This post has Barbra written all over it! I have seen 19 of them!!!

I love musicals. In addition to the movies, the kids and I like to watch the filmed versions of stage musicals like Cats, Annie, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and we always love to watch the Tony Awards. In the Heights looks really good.

West Side Story and Singin' in the Rain are probably my favorite movie musicals. Hairspray is our new favorite around here! And I'm so glad Swing Time was on EW's list.

I loved Chicago, and I thought Sweeney Todd was quite good except for Helena Bonham Carter. The stage version (Angela Lansbury) is in my Netflix queue (along with Company and Sunday in the Park with George). I've got some in my DVD cabinet that I haven't watched yet, too.

Have you gone to the Pantages (Hollywood) to see Wicked? If you haven't, you need to get tickets! It's closing in a few months and it is phenomenal!

I need to expand my horizon's thought because I haven't seen any of the other's - other than Mama Mai - play verizon and I loved that!

I need to you live closer to me and to push me to do more things like this!!

(Oops! I did see Chicgo and did love it too!!)

Oh, and WHERE IS MY FAIR LADY? (I know YOU didn't write that list, btw, just sayin'.)

They totally forgot My fair Lady!

And for sheer camp value, there is TOMMY with Ann-Margret writhing in a sea of baked beans. I think I'm going to watch that tomorrow.

Apparently, I have some small influence on my M-I-L:

"I went to the Movies!!! Read a review of Mamma Mia and couldn't resist.

D-I-L - please add this to your musicals list. It is wonderful. My vote for an Oscar for Meryl Streep.

N. [late husband] was such an Abba fan - he would have loved it. He watched Muriel's Wedding often, and laughed every time.

Thanks for mentioning it - You planted the idea in my mind and I'm soooo glad I went.
